Hank Aaron

Hank Aaron is well known as a highly acclaimed professional baseball player. Also known as Hammer, he finished 23 seasons in Major League Baseball with 755 home runs, beating the records of other famous hitters like Babe Ruth. He also was one of two players who hit more than 30 home runs in one season 15 times. Some of Hank’s awards and accolades include being a baseball Hall of Famer, receiving the Spingarn Medal by the NAACP, and the American Academy of Achievement’s Golden Plate Award.

Laverne Cox was born in Mobile in 1972. If you’re a fan of Orange Is the New Black, you’re sure to know this actress. One of her recognitions is being the first transgender individual to receive a Primetime Emmy Award nomination because of her performance in the TV show. Augusta Jane Evans

Author Augusta Jane Evans was born in Georgia, but her family soon moved to Mobile, Alabama. She began her writing journey with a novel called “Inez: A Tale of the Alamo” when she was only 15 years old. Four years later, in 1859, she released her second book named “Beulah.” Her succeeding books were also a huge success with many literary contributions made during the American Civil War. In 1977, she was inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame.

Tim Cook

Tim Cook was born in Mobile in 1960. Before serving as Apple’s Chief Executive Officer, he worked as the Chief Operating Officer under Steve Jobs and handled global operations and sales activities. Prior to becoming the current face of Apple, Tim worked with Compaq as the Vice President of Corporate Materials, and worked with IBM for 12 years. He received his degree in industrial engineering at Auburn University and his MBA at Duke University.
